Internet gone...

Tuesday, September 5

I woke up the morning of September 1st, not to happy families singing me 'happy birthday' over Skype, but to a flashing light on our modem and no internet. It was quite depressing for it to go off like that with no notice, but even more depressing the reason why. I made the 45min walk into the 'centre' of town to use the library's computers, only to find them down. So then I went a paid a ridiculous amount to check my email at a cafe. There I was able to find our internet provider's contact info and give them a ring. Turns out, the person who was in the flat before us had an internet through September 20th but cancelled at the end of August. Understandable since he left mid-August. But in a strange, socialist-run kind of way, they explained that even though we don't have service now and no one is paying for anything they wouldn't be able to release the line for new service until his contract was up!! That is all they would say and got very hostile when Sander politely asked to speak with someone who could explain this further to him. I guess they don't like getting money.

All in all it is very frustrating. I have walked 45min down to the center of town to use the free service at the library. It is very busy though, I have a time frame that I can't go over, and I am surrounded by a lot of people. Oh well, what is international life without some trouble?

So, please be patient we have updates (complete with video) that will include: "Pictures with the Queen of England!" "Our ride to Braemar, and What We Saw There." And of course, "The Semi-Merry UnBirthday To Me."

Well that just sucks! Welcome to Europe :( I would have had a fit if they told me that.
