36 Week Check Up
Thursday, April 16
We just got home from my 36 week check up with the midwives (have I mentioned how much I love them?). We had yet another ultrasound just to make sure he was growing ok. My tummy barely measures 31 weeks, but the baby is right on target for weight (6lbs) and size. I was so relived as they mentioned my tummy was measuring small at the last appointment and I’ve had a week and a half to worry about growth restriction. Of course I was comparing my belly to everyone else’s too… All I can say is I am so glad these appointments have been churning out the good news recently!
On top of the above good news, my midwife thinks once I get going I won’t be in labor long! The baby is already well engaged (i.e. locked and loaded) so my labor should be intense, but hopefully short. Her prediction is less than 8 hours in active labor. Even if that isn’t true, it should help me relax and just go with whatever pain I experience knowing that it could be over in just a few short hours. I am so encouraged!
So, it’s about time to pack my bag for the hospital and be ready for this little guy to come out and meet the world. It is an overwhelming thought that in 4 days-4 weeks I will be a mom and responsible for caring for a new life…I know I’m not ready for it. But thankfully I don’t have to be right now. Instead I just need to focus on taking each day as it comes, spend lots of time praying, and then be ready to conquer each new obstacle – one at a time.
Today’s obstacle: sewing on the bumper pad ties.

Hi Whitney! I just re-found your blog through Facebook. How exciting that you are going to be a mommy so soon! I remember the last few weeks being filled with feelings of both excitement and nervousness (although I was 2 weeks late, so that time period lasted a teeny bit longer for me!). And it is great to hear that you are using the midwives. They are just amazing!
Congrats and I am looking forward to seeing pictures of your little one! =)

Please wait until after Saturday to drop that baby!!! But yeah, we need to feed you more.
It could be anyday or another 6 weeks. (I was 2 weeks late too)
I think if you take it one step at a time, the labor will be survivable. I did not go all natural, but was pretty far along before I got an epidural. The moments between contractions give you hope for the next one. What a great joy is coming your way--and yes, MANY difficult times too but such blessings from the Lord each in their own way.
So exciting! Some of the best advice I received to endure a drug free delivery was to worship! I continually praised Jesus for the privilege of carrying a child and giving birth! Also, a good playlist on th i pod served as a wonderfully calming tool:)
Love you!
