Sickness and Anniversaries...
Saturday, July 31
Well, happy 5th anniversary to us! Yesterday we "celebrated" our 5th anniversary by cancelling childcare, and going to bed early with a cup of tea and NyQuil. I tend to really put a lot of stock in special dates and want to make them as special as possible. I have been feeling down today that our anniversary hasn't lived up to my expectations and have moped just a tad.
Then I surfed over to a friend's blog, and all my moping really got put in its place.
Two families, whom we love dearly, have just moved from Houston to the Republic of Georgia. The last family left on Tuesday and today they actually had time to blog. Reading through what the last couple of days have meant for them and why they have willing chose this hard path makes me realize my moping is just pathetic. Why should I mope when there are so many other more important things in life? These families know that possessions and stuff, which can be important, aren't the most lasting thing in life. People are; the people in their family, and the people in Georgia who are without jobs, clean water, or hope.
I want to remember that this weekend. Yes, celebrating our anniversary is wonderful, but I need to celebrate it in whatever form it takes. This year it was sipping tea in pjs and going to bed before 9pm. Maybe next year it will mean dressing up and eating out. But that isn't the point. Celebrate because of the person I am with. Celebrate because of what God has done in us these past five year. Celebrate because we aren't the most important people in the world who deserve the best. Celebrate because there are people all over the world who need hope - and maybe next year we can be a part of that more. That should be my hope. That should be my focus.
So today, I don't want to mope or think about what I wish this weekend could be. Instead I want the eyes of my heart may be enlightened in order that I may know the hope to which he has called me. (Eph 1:18)

Can you send me their blog address if it is a public thing? I would love to keep up with what is going on over there.
